About

Engineer-researcher with a Ph.D.\ from Seoul National University of Science and Technology (2020, Information & Communication Media Engineering), working at the intersection of digital signal processing, broadcasting / streaming media, wireless mesh / disaster communications, sports performance analytics, wearable health sensing, IoT sensor networks, and computer vision.

Track record across these areas: 16 granted patents, 6 government-funded R&D projects, and peer-reviewed publications in IEEE EMBC, IJASC, and the Korean Society of Broadcast Engineers (KCI). Doctoral thesis on the design of a reactive, distributed, microservices framework and its implementation as a digital signal-processing system.

Currently leading R&D at VENDIT Inc. Personal research interest: software-defined radio, low-cost reproducible measurement systems, and turning legacy / poorly-documented protocols into open code --- see the recent T-DMB receiver work (below).

Current R&D focus at VENDIT

Disaster communications for deeply enclosed spaces. Underground utility tunnels, construction sites, hospitality facilities --- the kind of environments where the conventional wireless coverage collapses on the first concrete wall, and where in every recent Korean disaster (소공동 화재, 광명 붕괴, 포항 침수, 이천 물류센터 화재) the common thread has been the same: communication lost, location unknown, evacuation guidance absent. We are building a self-healing dual-band wireless mesh (BLE 2.4 GHz + LoRa 920 MHz) that survives infrastructure loss, paired with an integrated smart-mask form factor (toxic-gas sensing, sub-5 m indoor positioning, on-device AI evacuation guidance). Government-funded R&D, 2026.06 onward, with Prof. Mooyoung Yoo at Daejin University Department of Architectural Engineering --- a reunion of the 2017--2019 "safety dream team" whose MSS Yeonguhmaul work (programme C0505520) produced the patents KR 10-2034554 and KR 10-2033118 that anchor this next-generation effort.

Selected open-source projects

airspy-mini-dmb 2026

End-to-end open-source software receiver for Korean Terrestrial DMB on low-cost SDR hardware.

Pure-Python pipeline: ETI parsing → Fast Information Channel decode → Reed-Solomon (204, 188) + Forney convolutional deinterleaver outer FEC → MPEG-4 SL packet demux → H.264 elementary stream reconstruction → ffmpeg decode. Verified on a 30 MB on-air capture of YTN DMB (channel K8B, 183.008 MHz) with an Airspy Mini and an indoor antenna: 87.3 % of Reed-Solomon blocks decode cleanly and ffmpeg renders QVGA H.264 frames containing recognisable Korean broadcast content.

Papers (preprint + Korean companion) are in the paper/ directory.

Stack: Python · C++ · LaTeX · Airspy Mini SDR · ETI(NI) · ETSI EN 300 401 · ETSI TS 102 427/428 · TTAK.KO-07.0026 · ISO/IEC 14496-1

Selected publications

Research areas (from patents)

Broadcasting & streaming media

Joint-broadcasting devices, gesture-controlled personal broadcasting, metadata-driven streaming video editing, and (current side work) software-defined T-DMB reception end-to-end.

Sports performance analytics

Multi-year programme of training and start-phase analysis for the Korean national bobsled / luge teams: technique- training systems, multi-camera time sync via optical time codes, start-phase analytic data generation, performance analysis pipelines, and steerable immersive content for motion simulators.

Wearable health sensing

Machine-learning-based SpO2 measurement on wearable devices, and biosignal extraction from users in motion — pushing PPG-style sensing past the usual stationary assumption.

Computer vision & privacy

Pose-aware video portrait-right protection (faces/identifying-pose redaction), and panoramic indoor scene synthesis.

IoT & safety systems

Worksite-hazard warning device, device authentication for IoT networks, and pattern-display window systems.
